Dr. Sara Ford

Dr. Sara Ford is a board-certified specialist in Small Animal Internal Medicine with more than three decades of experience dedicated to advancing veterinary medicine, patient care, and clinical education. Raised in the San Francisco Bay Area surrounded by companion animals, Dr. Ford developed a passion for animal health at an early age and began working in a veterinary hospital at just 15 years old. Over the years, she gained hands-on experience in nearly every hospital role, eventually serving as a veterinary technician in the ICU at the Veterinary Medical Teaching Hospital at UC Davis while completing both her undergraduate and veterinary studies.

Dr. Ford completed her Rotating Internship at the Animal Medical Center in New York City before returning to UC Davis for her residency in Internal Medicine. She became board certified in Small Animal Internal Medicine in 1994 and later established a highly respected specialty practice in San Diego, where she spent 25 years serving patients, clients, and referring veterinarians. In 2018, she relocated to the Phoenix Valley to develop and lead an Internal Medicine Service in Scottsdale while also pursuing advanced training in Interventional Radiology at the Animal Medical Center.

Widely recognized for her expertise in endocrinology and diabetic management, Dr. Ford is a frequent speaker at national veterinary conferences and has authored numerous scientific publications and book chapters. She has also served as a consultant for leading animal health organizations including Boehringer Ingelheim, Abbott, and Zoetis, contributing to the advancement of therapeutic options and playing a significant role in the development of the AlphaTrak® glucometer.

In addition to clinical practice, Dr. Ford is deeply committed to teaching and mentorship. She founded Arizona’s first Rotating Internship, Specialty Internal Medicine Internship, and Internal Medicine Residency programs, helping shape the next generation of veterinarians. Her dedication to education and innovation keeps her at the forefront of internal medicine, medical oncology, and interventional radiology procedures.
